Raw Tamarind Chutney
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup tamarind thokku (coarsely ground raw tamarind)
- 2 cups peanuts, roasted
- 8-10 green chillies
- 6-8 garlic cloves
- 1/2 cup water, for grinding
For tempering:
- 1/4 cup oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 2 sprigs curry leaves
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- coriander leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Roast the peanuts, let cool, and grind them into a coarse powder
- Add tamarind, green chillies, garlic cloves, enough water, and grind to a coarse paste.
- For tadka, heat oil in a large skillet. Add mustard and cumin seeds, curry leaves and splutter.
- Add diced onion and fry until slightly golden brown. Add turmeric powder and mix.
- Add the coarsely ground tamarind paste to the skillet and cook for 5 min on medium heat while stirring occasionally.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Skip this step if storing in the fridge for a week or more.
- Serve with hot rice and ghee.
